Get to Know Karrissa

Karrissa is an experienced special education teacher with a focus on severe disabilities, creating multisensory access to curriculum content, and community access for all learners. In her role as a Special Education Advisor at BlazerWorks, Karrissa is passionate about providing support and resources to special education professionals that will enhance their vital roles in making classroom content more accessible for students with disabilities.  

Karrissa brings 20 years of experience working as a paraprofessional, teacher (regular and special education), tutor, and education manager in many different educational settings. Her experience working with students in grades K-12 within public schools, intermediate care facilities, and in-home services, brings a unique perspective that allows her to create solutions for school professionals and students across many different learning environments.  

Karrissa earned her Doctor of Education in Curriculum and Instruction degree from Gardner-Webb University, Master of Arts in Educational Leadership from Concordia University- Portland, and Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from the University of North Carolina- Wilmington. Karrissa has also completed certificate programs in ESL and Deaf-Blindness at East Carolina University. She currently holds North Carolina teaching licensure in the following areas: Elementary Education (K-6), Exceptional Children General Curriculum (K-12), English as a Second Language (K-12), and Exceptional Children Adapted Curriculum (K-12).
