Get to Know Charlene

Charlene is an experienced school nurse and school health administrator with a passion for public health. In her role as School Nurse Advisor, she is committed to supporting school districts and nursing professionals in delivering robust school health services through self-care, mentorship, relationship building, regulatory compliance, and ongoing professional development.

Charlene has more than a decade of experience as a school nurse and served on the nursing faculty as a professor of nursing at colleges and universities throughout the Northeast. Her background also includes experience as a Director of Nursing and Health Services in a large urban school district managing the district's public health needs during the global COVID-19 pandemic.

Charlene earned her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Charter Oak State College and her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Western Connecticut State University. She earned her Master of Science in Nursing and Health Education from The University of Phoenix, and her Ph.D. in Nursing from The University of Phoenix. Her research focused on health and wellness among nurses. Board certified by the National Board for Certification of School Nurses, Charlene is also a member of the National Association of School Nurses and the Massachusetts School Nurses Association. She serves as a state liaison for the National Board of Certified School Nurses and is active in the University of Phoenix Alumni Mentorship Program, where she mentors and supports doctoral candidates. This summer, Charlene will present her research on school nurse contractors' perceptions of their school nurse clinical advisor at The National Association of School Nurses Conference in Chicago. She has also presented and lectured nationally on the role of healthy lifestyles in disease prevention among nurses.
